A series of prints I made in Adobe Illustrator as part of a project on ‘Codes and Ciphers’ during my time at University. Based around the Navajo code talkers of WW2. The only code to never be broken durning war time, the code talkers were from the Navajo tribe whose languge is not based on any previous from of human ligugistics.
Part of their code talkeing was their pohonetic alphabet, which used animal, plnats and ideas from their tribe to reference a particualr letter. I took those specific letters and the idea behind the codeword and illustrated them. to create the images I used a central theme, based upon the word and then surrounded it with repeating patterns and smaller illstrations taking references from the nature and culture they would have been surrounded by.
